A brief for mid-rise conditions
Parker County’s plans for a new fire and rescue training center included a five-story tower for mid-rise training. The 2023 project announcement described planned scenarios involving mixed-use buildings, interior-hallway apartments, garden apartments and mercantile occupancies.
Those scenarios gave the proposed tower a training context beyond its height: the announcement connected it with the building conditions firefighters would be preparing to encounter.
Thirty containers, five stories, a completed building
Entero bid for the Parker County project, was awarded the work and completed it alongside Advanced Fire Control. The finished Texas training building comprises 30 containers, rises five stories and has a reported area of 10,000 square feet.
The tower in use
In November 2024, the department reported using its new tower for the Midrise Mayhem training conference. Firefighters received instruction and took part in drills on priorities and methods for fires in mid-rise buildings, with instructors brought in from Atlanta, Houston and Columbus.
The department’s account described the tactical challenges addressed in the training: multiple floors, large footprints and more complex operations.
